I studied with Maurice Ley in Liverpool and then with Nicholas Powell and Joseph Ward of the Royal Northern College Music, Manchester. Later I had the honour to study in London with the legendary soprano Dame Eva Turner, who had worked with the conductor Toscanini
and the composer Mascagni in Italy. She coached me in the role of Aida.
My London debut was at the Riverside Studios in London and I have sung many of the most demanding roles in the operatic repertoire.
I have been a member of Bayreuth Opera, Germany (Richard Wagner's own opera house) and participated in a film of Tannhauser there, directed by Wolfgang Wagner. During that time I worked with the directors Werner Herzog, Harry Kupfer and conductors Daniel Barenboim, Giuseppe Sinopoli, amongst others. International engagements have taken me to France, Canary Islands and Malta. For Glasgow's City of Culture celebrations I sang the title role of Turandot at the Kings Theatre, recommended by Eva Turner, herself a great Turandot, and for Liverpool's City of Culture celebrations, I created the role of Lady Lilian Lightfoot in A Liver Bird Sang by Geoff Lavelle.
BBC radio engagements include recitals with the classical guitarist and lutenist Brendan McCormack, a long-standing partnership. With the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra I was the soprano soloist at a Proms concert in the presence of HRH Princess Anne and was presented to her after the performance. Similarly, I sang for Prince Edward on one of his visits to the North-West. Other engagements at the Philharmonic Hall include a Gala Aids benefit concert. At Covent Garden, I participated in a masterclass with the accompanist Jennifer Partridge. As solo soprano I have sung with with the Manchester Mozart Orchestra, the London Sinfonia, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the English National Philharmonic Orchestra, opera galas and concerts of opera. With Merseyside Opera I took part in the first Hillsborough Memorial Service.
In demand as a teacher, I have taught at Edge Hill University College, Ormskirk, Southport College Performing Arts, Artsound School of Music, Liverpool and privately.
